CMPT Roundup and Car Coral...04-19-2008

If you weren't there, you missed one of the best shows the club has ever put on. The weather was awesome, and so were the cars. Moritz Chrysler Jeep had sustained some minor hail damage from the storms that passed through a couple of days earlier and had to remove some of the awnings that cover the cars but other than that, they did an outstanding job of getting us a space cleared and were very helpfull with the event. Show entries made the trek from Oklahoma City, Abilene and several other towns from all over north Texas.

One of the highlights of the day happened during the awards ceremony, actually two of them. Maury Seitz was having a problem with his Barracuda and couldn't bring the car to the show. He paid his entry fee and proceeded to grab a pylon that was sitting on the parking lot and taped a photo of his car to it and placed it in a parking space.... now that is supporting your club! A little bit of discussion by the board members came up with an idea and Mauri was presented with an award for his entry, a photo copy of a plaque!

The other high point was during the presentation of the Jimmy Box award. For those of you not familiar with Jimmy Box, he was a long time club member that had some of the nicest old Mopars which always had his little "updates" done that made them truly recognizable as one of his cars. He passed away year before last and to honor him a special award was created to be handed out to the owner of the vehicle that best portrayed his style of car. This year it was a no brainer..... at the time of his death, Jimmy had been working on a new project, a 1962 Dodge Polara. It was still on the rotisserie when club member Marty Robertson purchased the car from the family. Himself and Dean Allen from Mopar Memories finished the car just days before the show and it was an awesome sight to see it being driven to the show by Marty. The car is absolutely beautiful (even though it was one of the ugliest cars ever designed by Dodge!!) and was chosen hands down to receive the award. When presented with it, Marty promptly gave the plaque to Dean Allen for the time, care and attention to detail that he put into finishing the car. I am sure we will see this car at many more events and shows.

The annual car show is also the changing of the guard. It is the last official function of the outgoing board members and they did a terrific job with the show. Club president Ken Castleman acted as DJ during the course of the day and after the awards were all handed out, officially turned the reigns and microphone over to the new club president, Mike Bearce.

We want to welcome the new members of the board, Mike Bearce president, Frank Smith vice president, Kevin Alexander secretary and Sandie Powell activities director and especially want to thank the outgoing members, Ken Castleman president, Richard West vice president and Kelly Hilla activities director for a great job during their term on the board of directors. Key Key membership director, Dan Robinson treasurer, Kirk Maisenbacher newsletter editor along with show team coordinator Dave Mandato and race team coordinator Mark Buchanan all are serving consecutive terms on the board.

A photo page for the show will be added later!
